MPs are to express concerns about the impact petrol prices are having on family finances in a Commons debate.

Tory MP Robert Halfon says more than 100 colleagues are backing his motion calling for ministers to rethink future fuel tax rises and ensure that falls in oil prices are passed on to motorists.

More than 100,000 people have signed an e-petition urging lower pump prices.

George Osborne cut fuel duty by 1p in March's Budget and also scrapped the annual fuel tax escalator.

Under this mechanism introduced by Labour, duty rose by 1p above inflation every year.
